::Suspected Fremont tagger: ‘Hooters’ girl told me to do it ::
Shortly before 7 p.m. Tuesday, near Mowry Avenue and Fremont Boulevard, officers heard about some guys tagging an abandoned building next to the restaurant that boasts finger-lickin’ chicken wings and waitresses in tight tank tops bearing a wide-eyed owl, the Hooters mascot.
When police showed up, Veteran said they saw Murillo allegedly using American Accents Wild Flower Blue spray paint to write on a 3-by-20-foot section of the Color Tile wall, and then saw Melin allegedly writing over it in red and white paint. Melin was Tasered moments later, as Veteran said he struggled with officers. During questioning, the alleged motivation of the tagging came to light. It was inspired by a young woman in a white tank and skimpy orange shorts – the international Hooters uniform. Melin told police that he was trying to “buff” the existing graffiti because his waitress at the restaurant didn’t like it.
Buff is a slang term for covering up someone else’s graffiti.
“I was covering up the (existing) tag because the Hooters girl told me to,” Melin allegedly said, adding that he and his friends had been drinking earlier in the evening.It’s hard to say what the men were painting, or what they were covering up that the Hooters waitress apparently found so objectionable.
“They were drunk” Veteran said. “It’s really unclear what they were doing.”
